LIRC module Debian packages for 2.6.27 kernels

by on Nov.20, 2008, under Linux

“LIRC is a package that allows you to decode and send infra-red signals of many (but not all) commonly used remote controls.”

It seems that any time I try to use the Debian LIRC modules source package, it is too old to build against the kernel I am trying to use. I have updated the 0.8.3 package currently found in Lenny and Sid to 0.8.4a. It will now build against Linux 2.6.27.

What I have built with the above source.  Unlikely to be useful to you, but here you go anyway…

Should you build again this module to be able to compile against latest sid’s 2.6.30, please drop me some lines…

I tried brute-forcing the 0.8.5 sources to make the deb (dropping patches) but I didn’t get it to compile, something related to :

hw_ftdi.c:54:18: error: ftdi.h: No such file or directory
    hw_ftdi.c: In function ‘child_process’:
hw_ftdi.c:112: error: storage size of ‘ftdic’ isn’t known

I happen to need this module since evdev stopped supporting IR devices 🙁

Broken links fixed. These are really old, though. The new packages in experimental seem to work at the moment. Also, these drivers are slowly finding their way into the mainline kernel (thank god).
